Well, everyone, it’s that time again. It’s the end of our long hot days lounging by the pool, going to the beach, gardening, family picnics, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and whatever else your family enjoys during our hot months.
Up here in Northern PA we’re greedily hanging on to every last ray of sunshine Mother Nature has to offer. I know places further North of us are already feeling the change in seasons.
One thing that we can have positive feelings about is the upcoming Holidays. Halloween will be here before you know it. Kids of all ages will be dressing up, carving pumpkins, going to house parties where they’ll play games like dunking for apples, costume contests, etc. For those who Trick or Treat, please carry flashlights.
Instead of backyard barbeques, families will once again gather around the kitchen table feasting on hearty stews and casseroles, roast chicken with all the fixin’s, and plenty of pies and homemade breads. Sounds so Normal Rockwellish, doesn’t it?
What will you miss most about summer? It’s a no-brainer for me. Corn on the cob. I come from a long line of corn connoisseurs. My parents were corn fanatics. Towards the end of the season, they would drive 45 minutes just to find a vegetable stand that still had corn. I think they ate it every night. Our local corn supplier tells us that Saturday will be the last day. WHAT???? How can this be?
I have plenty of new recipes to post, so make sure you stock up on pantry staples. Maybe you’ll turn into a cooking diva like me. Ta ta for now.
